Dear experts for health care of the elderly, dear colleagues,

the necessity of continuing education in gerontology and geriatrics, including the interdisciplinary gerontological, intersectoral cooperation from the health care system, social welfare, labor and pension funds, education, science, tourism, culture, ecology and sustainable economy, becomes a continuous imperative of the 4th Croatian Congress on Gerontology and Geriatric with international participation, to be held in Opatija in Spring 2021.

The main organizers are the Croatian Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics of the Croatian Medical Association (President: Academician Zijad Durakovic) and Referral Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia for Health Care of the Elderly – Department of Public Health Gerontology, Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Publich Health (head: Ass. ABSTRACTS


INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITING AND SUBMITTING ABSTRACTS

Participants who would like to present an oral or poster presentation should submit an abstract for consideration by the Scientific Committee. The abstracts should be submitted in Croatian or English, and will be published in the Supplement of the indexed journal ‘Liječnički vjesnik’. The Scientific Committee will determine whether the abstract will be accepted for an oral or poster presentation.

The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission to the Congress agency BTravel and of all communications thereafter.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRESENTATIONS

• presentations should be in Croatian or English
• computers onsite will be PC’s. Presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT), windows-based
environment. Macintosh users who want to submit presentations must export their presentation as a MS PowerPoint file
• PowerPoint format: A4 format or 4:3
• file format: Onsite organizers operating systems will include Microsoft Office 2016 and Windows 7. The following file formats are supported: .ppt or .pptx
• videos: Make sure that you compress the video. There are numerous different file formats and codecs, we recommend using .mp4 videos – H.264 video and AAC audio (MPEG-4 AVC). Other supported file formats are .mpg, .wmv and .avi
• projector format: The standard format of the projectors in the congress rooms will be 4:3
• speakers are kindly asked to prepare their presentations at least one hour before their lecture in the preparation area and give them to the Congress agency technician
• technical personnel will test-check the oral presentation(s) for compatibility and speakers will be given a final
opportunity for any last minute modifications
• speakers are kindly asked to give the technical personnel any special instructions they may have when in the
preparation room, not during the lecture

POSTERS

• posters can be written in Croatian and English
• poster dimensions: 80 cm (width) x 100 cm (height)
• elements: title, list of authors, poster text (introduction, elaboration, conclusion), literature
• recommendations:
– avoid shading, underlining, and mixing different types of letters
– avoid capital letters

Posters will be displayed on billboards in the exhibition area throughout the duration of the Congress. The authors must be present next to their posters during the poster viewing in time according to the program. Posters should be brought in person. Supplies for poster mounting will be provided by the Congress agency.

Best poster award
The jury will award the author of the best poster. The award is a weekend package for two persons at the Amadria Park Grand Hotel 4 Opatijska Cvijeta, Croatia during a before agreed period. Oral or poster presentation is not possible if the registration fee is not paid (excluding invited speakers).

Iza is a social anthropologist and a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. Her ethnographic research, continuing from 2008, among older Japanese in the city of Osaka explores sociality, ethics, hope and happiness. She has co-edited a book Values of happiness: Towards an anthropology of purpose published by University of Chicago Press. Her recent book, entitled Making Meaningful Lives: Tales from and aging Japan has recently been published by University of Pennsylvania Press.
Alma Mihaljevic-Peles was born in Karlovac, Croatia, in 1959. She received the Medical doctor degree and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine,Croatia, in 1984 and 1996, respectively. Since 1984 she was a Research Fellow at the University of Zagreb and received from 1985-1986 Postgraduate training in clinical pharmacology. In 1989, she finished master thesis on the topic: The possibilities of finding early and late extrapyramidal side effects in treatment with neuroleptics. From 1987 to 1990 she passed training in psychiatry and became psychiatrist. She finished doctoral dissertation in 1996 on the topic: The importance of lowered arylsulphatase A activity in the diagnostics and development of psychiatric disorders. Presently, she is a Fulltime Professor at the Chair of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology on the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb and the Head of the Department for Psychiatry, University Hospital Centre Zagreb. She is mainly interested in the field of clinical psychopharmacology and biological psychiatry. She has published over 200 scientific and professional papers and has a rich experience in participating in numerous clinical studies with different drugs. She is certificated rater for different psychiatric rating scales, principal investigator in the several scientific projects and co-lecturer in various postgraduate courses.
Prof. Ninoslav Mimica, MD, MSc, DSc, psychiatrist, primarius, IFAPA, born in 1959 in Zagreb, Croatia. He is subspecialist from the field of biological psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and social psychiatry. Currently in the position of full professor and senior scientist, re-elected. He is employed at the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb, currently Head of the Department for Biological Psychiatry and Psychogeriatrics. He is leading the Reference Center of Ministry of Health of Republic of Croatia for Alzheimer’s Disease and Old Age Psychiatry. He is president of Croatian Association for Alzheimer’s Disease and Old Age Psychiatry, CroMA, vice-president of Alzheimer Croatia and founder of the Croatian Alzheimer’s Alliance.
M.Sc. in Physics in Zagreb, (Croatia, 1977); Ph.D. in Quantum Physics (UK, 1982). After 3 years in France, India, Australia and USA, since 1986. He is permanently at the EPFL in Lausanne (Switzerland). Main research on complexity correlations and (macroscopic) quantum phenomena. A textbook on superconductivity (1992) used in ≈4000 courses worldwide! More than >235 cc articles, 35 reviews, 25 edited professional books, co-organizer of 35 international conferences and 7 summer schools. More than hundred colloquia in leading institutions worldwide and as many invited conference talks; hundreds of public lectures. Adviser to 36 government agencies and advanced high-tech companies worldwide. Tesla World Foundation President.
Professor Silvia Rusac, PhD, is a social worker specialized in supervision in psychosocial work and with a dissertation in social gerontology. She currently holds the position of full professor at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Croatia. Dr. Rusac is a member of several national advisory boards, as well as a frequent speaker on the topic of elder abuse for health and social care authorities, practitioners, NGOs and others. Her current research activity is on elder abuse in family and elder abuse in residential care settings. During the last decade she has been a presenter, lecturer, invited speaker and organizer at numerous conferences, symposia and courses for social workers, physicians and volunteers in the fields of gerontology.

Aleksandar Štulhofer (Zagreb, 1962.) is Professor of Sociology and Head of Sexology Unit. He has published internationally, including all major sex research journals (PubMed lists75 of his papers). His books include Nevidljiva ruka tranzicije (Zagreb, 2000.), HIV/AIDS i mladi – Hrvatska 2005. (Zagreb, 2006.), and the edited volume Sexuality and Gender in Postcommunist Eastern Europe and Russia (New York, 2005.). In the 2005-2014 period he served as WHO consultant working in the Eastern Mediterranean region on bio-behavioral HIV surveillance. Dr. Štulhofer is full member of the International Academy of Sex Research and a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Federation of Sexology. He serves on editorial boards of the Journal of Sex Research, Archives of Sexual Behavior, and Sexuality and Culture. He is a founding member of the Croatian Association for Sex Therapy. In 2016, Dr Štulhofer was awarded with the European Federation of Sexology Gold Medal for scientific contribution to sexual health in Europe.
