Official languages are Croatian and English. Simultaneous translation will be provided.

Organizing Committee will issue the Letter of Invitation upon request, to be used for visa application and for your employer. Please send your request to the Congress Agency e-mail: goran.grbic@btravel.pro

OFFICIAL BADGES
All registered participants with registration fee paid will get Congress badges and are obliged to wear them during the scientific and social program.

CONGRESS EXHIBITION
During the Congress, an industrial exhibition of medical manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies will be organized in the congress area. More information about participate to the Congress are available at Offer for sponsors and exhibitors. Companies interested in advertising their products at the exhibition and in the congress materials, Final Program and “Neurologia Croatica” journal with abstracts, should contact the Congress Agency.

INSURANCE
The Organizing Committee cannot accept responsibility for accidents or damage to participants or accompanying persons before, during or after the Congress. Participants are urged to make their own arrangements with respect to travel and health insurance. Upon registration, the participant accepts this provision.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my great honor and pleasure to invite you to participate in the Croatian Congress on Alzheimer’s Disease with international participation, CROCAD-18. The Congress will take place in Novigrad, from October 3-6, 2018.

Again, the organizers have invited numerous national and international speakers, with the intention to present the newest scientific knowledge in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and other causes of dementia, while special attention will be paid to issues related to patients and carers.

Along with the professional work, we will try to spend our time in socializing and getting to know each other, and Novigrad will certainly allow us to do so.

Vidya Shenoy (Mumbai, India)
Vidya SjenoyVidya Shenoy is Secretary General of Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India and Honorary Secretary of its Mumbai Chapter. With M.A. in Economics, Finance and Management she is aboard many medico-social causes. She practices Alternative Therapies with special emphasis on Yoga for those affected by Alzheimer’s, children with special needs and teaches Yoga at centres of Shri Ambika Yoga Kutir in Mumbai. Her passion of volunteering for Alzheimer’s is updated with continuous study, spreading awareness with sensitivity, conducting workshops, counselling to seniors, families and caregivers of those affected by dementia. She runs a specialised Dementia Daycare Centre in Mumbai called Universe of Memory, Smriti Vishvam. She is invited to speak and make presentations on Alzheimer’s & dementia at Conferences and has conducted Yoga workshops in India and overseas.

GORAN ŠIMIĆ (Zagreb, Hrvatska)
Goran Šimić is a tenured Professor of Neuroscience and Anatomy, and the Head of Neuroscience Department at the Croatian Institute for Brain Research of the University of Zagreb Medical School. In the department, prof. Šimić also leads the Laboratory for Developmental Neuropathology. He graduated from the University of Zagreb Medical School in 1992, where he, after three research fellowships from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, also received PhD in 1998. His laboratory has extensive expertise in the neuropathology of developmental and neurodegenerative disorders and has established an international cooperation on biomarkers for brain diseases, especially Alzheimer’s disease. Prof. Šimić was the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor of Translational Neuroscience journal from 2010-2016. For his work on etiopathogenesis of spinal muscular atrophy he received The Kurt Jellinger Prize from Acta Neuropathologica and Springer Verlag in 2008.

ŠTEFANIJA LUKIČ ZLOBEC (Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Štefanija Lukič ZlobecIn 2009 Joined Spominčica – Alzheimer Slovenia when her husband (early onset Alzheimer’s Disease at age 50) was a patient of a psychiatrist dr. Aleš Kogoj, specialist on dementia, founder and president of Spominčica from 1997. In 2009, together with dr. Aleš Kogoj and neurologist dr. Gorazd Stokin, they gave initiative for the preparation of the National Dementia Strategy, in 2010 Minister of Health nominated the Working Group, in 2016 the Strategy was successfully adopted. In 2012 became vice president of Spominčica. In 2012 on her initiative Spominčica became member of Alzheimer Europe (AE) and Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI). In 2012 brought Alzheimer Café to Slovenia, which is now organized in more than 80 locations around Slovenia. In 2014 became president of Spominčica. In 2014 became board member of Alzheimer Europe and gave initiative to hold an Alzheimer Europe conference in Ljubljana and succeeded that all Slovenian members of the European parliament became members of Alzheimer Alliance of the European parliament. In 2015 hosted the jubilee 25th Alzheimer Europe Conference in Ljubljana. From 2016 intensively works on the implementation of the National Dementia Strategy. Gave initiative for Dementia Friendly Spots (DFS), first DFS opened in 2017 in collaboration with the Human Rights Ombudsman, more than 50 DFS opened until July 2018. With the Ministry of Health launched the education and training program for formal and informal caregivers of persons with dementia all around Slovenia. Spominčica is a partner in several European projects .

VLATKO SAGUD (Milwaukee, USA)
Vlatko Šagud, mag.art.kip., is a graduate student of Mount Mary University, Milwaukee, WI. In 2016, Shortly after acquiring his master’s degree in fine arts with a major in sculpture from the Academy of Fine arts in Zagreb, Croatia, he went on to pursue a three-year graduate course in science, department of art therapy with a focus on counseling, in Milwaukee, WI. With a professional art education span of thirteen years, he participated in more than fifteen domestic and international group art exhibitions and presented lectures on international symposiums on topics of art and psychoeducation from. His focus is on research and study of the human psyche, the role or art on human wellness and wellbeing, and direct psychotherapeutic work with people who present with a wide array of mental disorders. In 2016 he interned as a therapist at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical center. In 2017 he interned as a therapist NorthPointe Resources, who deal with clients who present with intellectual disabilities and comorbid disorders. When not preoccupied with helping those in need, he works on his artwork. Currently, he is in his final year in the U.S. As of 2018, he interns at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he provides therapeutic services to American war veterans. NATASA KLEPAC (Zagreb, Croatia)
Natasa KlepacAssistant Professor of Neurology, Clinical University Hospital Zagreb, Medical School Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia. She was born in Zagreb, Croatia. Natasa Klepac received her medical degree from the Medical Faculty, University of Zagreb in 1997. She specialized in neurology at University Hospital Zagreb during 2002 –2007. From 2007 until know she works as a specialist at Neurology Department at Clinical University Hospital in Zagreb. She is Assistant Professor in Neurology at the Zagreb Medical School. She has done research in the fields of neurology, mainly neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease and dementia, and is the author and coauthor of many papers on that subject in Croatia and international medical literature.

NELA PIVAC (Zagreb, Croatia)
Nela PivacProfessor Nela Pivac: DVM (1974), School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb; MSc (1987), School of Medicine, University of Zagreb; PhD (1994), School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb. She spent one-year post doc study (1996-1997) at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. From 2001, she is a secretary of the Croatian Pharmacological Society; and from 2012 senior scientist, re-elected, at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb. From 2014, she was appointed as Associated Professor, and from 2017, as Full Professor in the interdisciplinary PhD study at the University Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek. She is a regular member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Croatia from 2016. She is secretary of the College of Basic Medical Sciences of the Academy of Medical Sciences from 2016. From 2017, she is Associate Editor for the journal: Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry. As a Guest Professor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences she has spent 3 months (in 2017) in the Institute for Experimental Medicine in Budapest, Hungary.

BJANKA VUKSAN – ĆUSA (Zagreb, Croatia)
Bjanka Vuksan CusaGraduated at Zagreb University Medical Faculty in 1992. PhD thesis was entitled Bipolar disorder, metabolic syndrome and alostatic load-multidimensional analysis“ (2010). Since 2016. Assistant Proffessor at Medical Faculty Osijek and Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina). She published several articles in international journals with high impact factors. She is a member of Croatian psychiatric association, Croatian Catholic medical doctor association. Croatian association for psychopharmacotherapy and biological psychiatry (secretary) and Croatian aliance for Alzheimer disease. Topics of special proffesional interest are psychopharmacology, bipolar disorder, dementia, metabolic parameters and cardiovascular risk factors in psychiatric patients

KRASANKA GLAMUZINA (Zagreb, Croatia)
Krasanka GlamuzinaKrasanka Glamuzina (Slatina, April 05, 1953), BSc in Social Work, Director of the Home for elderly people „Medveščak” Zagreb since 1992. She has been working all her life in health and social institutions. Particular areas of interest are elderly people, protecting their rights through participation in creating opportunities for their dignified life. She closely cooperates with institutions that initiate initiatives to improve the quality of life of older people, especially those afflicted with AD and other dementia. She participates in the creation of national and local policies for the care of the elderly and in the role of President of the Association for the Improvement of the Quality of Life “Medveščak“, She initiates the education of formal and informal caregivers and professional and auxiliary workers for work with AD and other dementias. As a director of the Home for the elderly people “Medveščak”, on November 3, 2015, she opened the first Department for the Care of Persons Affected by AD and other dementia in Croatia. She participates in congresses, conferences and all professional gatherings related to older people’s issues where she promotes active, participative and dignified aging.

SLAĐANA ŠTRKALJ IVEZIĆ (Zagreb, Croatia)
Slađana Štrkalj Ivezić, professor at the Zagreb Medical School, psychiatrist, sub specialist of social psychiatry and psychotherapy, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb (1976), M.Sc. (1987) and Doctor of Science (1991). Employed at Vrapče Psychiatric Clinic, Head of the Ministry of Health Reference Center for the area of psycho social methods in psychiatry. The president of the Croatian Society for Clinical Psychiatry of Croatian medical association. She is a group analyst and a family psychotherapist. She is active at the national and international levels regarding community mental health development and implementation of psycho social and psycho-therapeutic methods, anti-stigma programs and education of various mental health professionals.

JADRANKA VUKOVIĆ (Subotica, Serbia)
Born in 1957 in Subotica. She studied sociology in Belgrade. In 2010, she founded a facility for the care and accommodation of elderly persons “Betanija” in Subotica. In 2012, she founded the “Betania-Alchajmer” association. He has made a big contribution while working with people with Alzheimer’s disease through the Association and Day care center in Subotica, but also, due to helping families whose members are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease through care-giving education. She expanded her role in the care for Alzheimer’s and people with dementia, and opened the first Nursing home for people with dementia in Novi Sad, Serbia in 2014. In Subotica, Serbia about 500 users with dementia have gone through the center, and in Novi Sad, Serbia about 400 users. She has participated at the International Conferences on Dementia in Budapest, Kyoto and Chicago as well as at an international conference in Slovenia.

FRAN BOROVEČKI (Zagreb, Croatia)
Professor Fran Borovecki was born in 1975 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated from Zagreb Medical School in 1999 and attained his PhD from Zagreb Medical School in 2004. He was a visiting research scientist at Harvard Medical School on several occasions from 2003 to 2007 and was also a visiting research scientists at New York University. Since 2007 he has headed the Department for Functional Genomics at the Center for Translational and Clinical Research, University of Zagreb School of Medicine. Since 2012 he has been employed as a board certified neurologist at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Center Zagreb. Prof. Borovecki was appointed the acting Director of the Center for Translation and Clinical Research, University of Zagreb School of Medicine and University Hospital Center Zagreb in 2015. Since 2017 he serves as the Head of the Division for Movement Disorders, at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Center Zagreb. Prof. Borovecki’s area of scientific and clinical interest is genetics of neurological diseases. He has published 59 scientific papers indexed in CC and WoS databases which have been cited 1948 times according to the Scopus database, published 12 book chapters and has held more than 40 invited lectures at national and international scientific conferences. Prof. Borovecki is the recipient of the Award for Best PhD Thesis defended at Zagreb Medical School for year 2003/2004 and was awarded the National Science Foundation of Croatia Scholarship and the Fulbright Scholarship, as well as Michael J. Fox Foundation Rapid Response Innovation Award.
